About Me

I am passionate about helping students prepare for college, whether through developing their general writing and analytical skills, maximizing their SAT scores, or crafting unique and compelling college essays.

Background
I've been teaching privately since I was a student at Wellesley College.  While immersed in the honors program in English there, the faculty noticed my skill in writing and asked me to become a lead tutor in the writing department. About the same time, the college received a call from a family in Sherborn looking for a writing tutor for their very bright 9 year old son. When the writing department passed the request on to me, I didn't know it yet, but my career as a private writing tutor had just been launched.

Shortly after this, I developed a particular interest in teaching the verbal portion of the SAT. I have witnessed nearly one hundred students increase their scores by at least 100 points, sometimes even more dramatically, as a result of just a couple of months of working with me.

Two and a half years after I graduated from Wellesley College magna cum laude with a degree in English, I graduated from the prestigious masters program in creative non-fiction writing at Bennington College in Vermont. The program shaped and challenged me in ways that continue to benefit me, both personally and in my teaching.

Five years ago I also started working with students to develop vibrant, compelling college essays. My students have been accepted to their top choice schools, including MIT, UPenn, NYU, Columbia, Duke, and Harvard among many others.  It's always a thrill for me to hear back from students when they receive their acceptance letters!
